During the visit, Mr. Nader Abu Amsha, the Director of The East Jerusalem YMCA Rehabilitation Program & Beit Sahour YMCA, gave a comprehensive overview on the services and support the Rehabilitation Program provides for the Palestinian community in general, and for the marginalized groups of persons with disabilities as well as the traumatized survivors of political violence in particular, with special focus on the children Ex-detainees project.
The delegation also had the chance to meet and talk to some of the ex-detainee children who benefit from the services offered to them as part of the Children Ex-detainees Project, which is dedicated to support their psychosocial wellbeing to cope with the traumatic experience they went through, as well as helping their re-integration into their communities.
“Our purpose of making this visit is mainly to better understand the different aspects of the situation in here, and be able to convey the right picture for our people”, said the Archbishop of Canterbury’s wife Mrs. Caroline Welby. She also stated that "this visit is really an eye opening to the reality" at the end of the visit.
