The current EJ-YMCA Youth Department was restructured in 2018, with the aim to promote equality and social justice among youth based on Christian values and principals of human rights, and in alignment with the vision of YMCA for youth development of body, mind and spirit. The Youth Department targets young men and women between the age of 15-25, taking into consideration gender equality, and inclusion approaches of marginalized groups and people with disabilities. Currently, the youth department has approximately 200 volunteers, who are fully committed to the EJ-YMCA and working under its supervision and strategic directions.
The YD works on channeling the enormous energy for youth towards achieving their full potential and enhance their participation in the socio-economic and political life, through the provision of trainings on different skills to support their daily life, overcoming obstacles and challenges, and restoring hope for a better life. Specifically, the YD works on developing leadership quality in all youth group members, promoting and fostering the concept of volunteering within the youth group and in the surrounding society, and providing recreational activities. To achieve this the YD runs annual summer camps, youth hubs, MUN (model united nation conference), and exchange programs.
