Upon the Invitation of the East Jerusalem YMCA The World Alliance of YMCAs held its 63rd Annual Executive Committee Meeting & The Global Staff Team Meetings in Jericho - Palestine


For the first time, the EJ-YMCA hosted in Jericho/ Palestine the 63rd World Alliance of YMCA's "EXCO" meetings & The Global Staff Meetings during the period of April 2nd to April 7th 2013 .Representatives of YMCA leaders from all continents were present to discuss issues pertaining to the World Alliance of YMCAs and to prepare for the World Alliance Council Meeting which will be held in Estes Park, Colorado, USA in July 2014.


The highlight of the meetings was the opening ceremony on April 4th, which was sponsored by the Palestine Bank. Mr. Wassef Daher, the President of the EJ-YMCA Board, welcomed the participants and the guests. Then Dr. Saeb Erikat, Head of the Palestinian Negotiating Team, gave an address speech where he briefed the audience about the present situation concerning the Palestinian Israeli peace talks .This was followed by the performance of "El Funoun" Folklore group. During the interval Mr. Ken Colloton, president of the World Alliance of YMCAs ,and Rev. Dr. Johan Eltvik , the Secretary General , spoke about the EXCOM and expressed their appreciation for the welcome they received and the importance of that yearly meeting .

Mr. Saleem Hodaly, Director of the Palestine Bank in Bethlehem, in his speech on Sunday the 7th, spoke about the economy in Palestine and the work of the Palestine Bank, stressing the importance of the support of the profit-making organizations to the local NGO's.


During their stay, the participants visited the East Jerusalem YMCA programs, the Jerusalem International YMCA and the main Holy and historical sites in both Jerusalem and Bethlehem. They also attended the chartering of the Y’s Men & Women’s Club of Bethlehem, Palestine on the 6th of April in Beit Sahour.
