Y’s Men and Women Club Begins in East Jerusalem


The East Jerusalem Y’s Men and Women’s Club was approved by the Y’s Men International on 14 September, and chartered in Jerusalem on 17 October 2011.   

The chartering ceremony, marking the beginning of operations, was attended by Finn Pederson, President, Y’s Men Clubs International; Takao Nishimura (Nishi), International Secretary General; and Barbro Thoren, Regional Director of Y’s Men and Women’s Club, Sweden.  Dignitaries from Sweden included Lars Gustav Winberg , past International President; Hillbritt Jansson, past Regional Director, Sweden; Bo  Rybrand, Regional Secretary, Sweden; and Jacob Kristensen, past Area President, Europe.

The new club will have 30 members from all of walks of life and ages in Jerusalem.  Among those attending the ceremony were: Andrea Batarseh, President, East Jerusalem; Yusef Daher, President Elect; Dr. Mona Mushahwar, Secretary; and Wafa Kazimi, Treasurer.

The new club wants to create links with the rest of the world, promote global peace, and promote friendship and partnership between nations.  Activities of the club will be consistent with the Association’s global objectives.

Andrea Batarseh, President,  spoke of expectations for the future, and said that: “the new club opens the door for putting together at least three new clubs in Palestine region- hoping that in the future we develop a Middle East zone.”
